Learning to Play Golf – Some Tips For Beginners

admin November 18th, 2008

You are just learning to play Golf. What are some tips to make learning the game of golf less painful?

1. Choosing the right clubs. Remember you are just beginning and it is not necessary to buy the most expensive name brand clubs. You can pay less for clubs that are not name brands, and these clubs are great for learning on.

2. What clubs do you need to have in your bag for a beginner?

#3 — Wood
#5 — Wood, #7 — Wood
#5 — Iron through #9 — Iron
Pitching Wedge
Putter

Now that you have the clubs needed you should arrange to take some golf lessons from a local pro or view some golf videos. There are many excellent videos available. Golf lessons could cost around $30 for lessons that run for 30 minutes to one hour. After you have had a few lessons, practice, practice, practice. Go to a local Driving Range or practice on a Putting Green. Also there is always your back yard to practice swinging.

It is important to be relaxed and there are stretching exercises which will increase your strength and get you in good physical condition. It is important that you are not up tight, but are relaxed and in condition to enjoy the game. After all, enjoyment is the reason you play the game. Next, you will want to check with your golf course to see what types of shoes they allow on the course.

There are some basic rules of golf that every golfer should adhere to.

1. You must continue to play with the same golf ball that you teed off with on a particular hole until you
put the ball into the hole. You can change balls every hole, but not midway through a hole. The
exceptions are if the ball is hit into water and is thought lost, or if it is lost in woods or out of bounds
on a road.
2. You must play the ball where it lands. The exceptions are: if the ball ends up on a cart path or
behind or on top of a sprinkler head, or in a puddle of water.

There are also some basic rules of etiquette you should be aware of. Remember no talking when another player is teeing up a shot, and be ready when it is your turn. If your ball should land in a sand trap, be sure to rake the trap after making your shot.

Always be a good sport, and remember no cheating. Now that you are a Pro, go out and have fun!

Learn to Play Golf

admin November 17th, 2008

Would you like to learn how to play golf? It is not hard to learn and anyway you look at it, learning through lessons makes a big difference.

Simple foot action sounds very complicated when you listen to how you need to do it. But when you perform it, it’s as easy as making yourself comfortable. Distributing your body weight equally on your foot to give you good balance can result in a good effortless swing.

There are so many ways to learn golf, like buying an instructional DVD, coaching, and attending golf schools. But I tell you the best way to learn to play golf is by observing how professional golfers do their techniques. Yes, we all have different talents, abilities, flexibility, balance and even strength. However, considering the kind of stance they perform in different obstacles through out the game, you will certainly learn very useful tips. Apply it into practice and you will be amazed the level of ability you have. Practice and keep practicing will lead you into perfections.

You might hear that even professionals have difficulty in overcoming their handicap. Possibly you have heard it took them years and years of practice before the got even slightly better. But if you bare in mind that you play to enjoy not to compete, it is not as frustrating as you think it is and is very rewarding. Believing in yourself that you can perform well is a good start. Confidence is the best foundation of all tips because if you are nervous it will show on your swing and the possibility is you will wobble and will not manage to hit the ball.

Keeping cool, relaxed and focused on what you are doing is the secret when you desire to learn to play golf.

Used Golf Equipment

admin November 17th, 2008

Let’s say for instance that you have decided to buy yourself a new set of golf clubs. The first round you play feels great and you shoot the round of your life. The second round, you’re back to your normal average score.

As good as new technology can be, you wonder why you spend hundreds upon hundreds of dollars so that you could enjoy the latest thing out there on the market. Well, this question could have been solved much earlier if you knew that used golf equipment could have been purchased for a much more reasonable price.

A key factor is that new equipment is much different than broken in equipment. Instead of spending hours at the driving range to get your driver popping the way you want it to, why not simply go with one that is already in the spot you need it?

Baseball bats are the same way; they need to have hit hundreds of balls before the fibers on the hitting surface can expand and give it the pop you want. This is a hard time to be spending money on a leisure activity, but it doesn’t have to be that way if you look for the right outlet online.

What you probably don’t know is that a lot of used golf equipment has never been on a course.

As one example, many times a pro shop will have a brand new set out for testing. Since you could not legally turn around and sell the clubs as brand new, the shop is forced to place them for sale as used golf equipment. The websites then buy them from the individual shops like these.

That set would have normally been priced at an unholy price which you couldn’t afford. You won’t need to feel bad about not being able to afford the best thing out there because now you can with used golf equipment!

The myth about used golf equipment is that everything comes in poor condition and rarely will there be anything remotely up to date available. This is simply not the case. There are dozens of great outlets online that you can trust which provide some of the newest gear on the market.

For a variety of reasons, a lot of the newest, top-of-the-line gear is available to you for a much more affordable cost. Save yourself some money and go check out what is available to you at the click of a mouse.

Improve Golf Driving Distance

admin November 17th, 2008

How do I improve my golf driving distance? I hear this question daily. This is the dream of almost every amateur golfer. To hit it longer. To achieve this goal is not what you pictured. Stop buying more clubs! Don’t hit another practice ball! And even take a break from your golf instructor.

It’s about working on the machine that swings the club. Are you following me? Do you know what I’m getting at? You’re an athlete if you play golf. Don’t laugh. I’m serious! To swing a golf club effectively takes a tremendous amount of golf specific strength, flexibility, coordination, balance and stability.

None of the above can be accomplished without an optimum level of golf specific fitness. When was the last time you made a swing and felt like it was an effortless, full and produced maximum power? I’m sure it’s happened on occasion, but not as often as you want right?

The reason why is your body can’t produce a repetitively powerful swing. It’s not capable of it. Why? Because you need to work on it ‘off the course’ with simple golf strength and golf stretches to build up the golf specific muscles that can make this happen.

To improve driving distance you must take this attitude. If not, be ready to accept the same swing, game and results you’ve been getting for a long time. I don’t mean to mix words, but the truth is needed. No sugar-coating! This is “throwing all the cards on the table” and deciding how bad you want to improve your golf driving distance.

Golfers have been bombarded with ads about the latest-greatest driver, guaranteed to add 30 yards to your driving distance. I say bs on that. It’s you that swings that club. Doesn’t matter what club you have if your body is in poor condition.

The critical area to work on for the quickest results is your core (mid-section). Your core is the engine that drives the swing and produces all the power. You’ve got to strengthen this area from a rotational standpoint to improve golf driving distance.

Not only will this approach improve your golf driving distance, but it will eliminate low back pain and injury. Low back pain is the most common complaint among golfers. It’s no wonder since the golf swing is such a torquing movement that directly affects the lower back if you have weak and restricted muscles.

The benefits far outweigh the effort involved. Longer drives, no more injuries and years of golf enjoyment. There’s no better return than that. So take a different approach to improve your driving distance for golf.

Do you want to discover the secret to creating more power and consistency in your golf swing… and eliminating ALL your swing faults?

How to Improve Your Health – Play Golf

admin November 10th, 2008

If you are looking for a sport that can be very healthy, you should explore playing golf. It can be good for both your physical and mental health. It can get you out into the fresh air to commune with nature and, presuming that you do quite a bit of walking, get your blood pumping with a little exercise.

There are many organizations and doctors that will tell you golf is good for your health. One of the first to push this information is the United States Golf Association (U.S.G.A.). They will suggest that to get the most out of the outing, you should walk as much as possible instead of riding in the cart.

It may be little more convenient to ride between holes but, the walk will do you good. This will improve the circulation, get the heart rate up and stimulate some deep breathing, all of which will improve your well being.

Some of the proponents of walking include David Fay of the U.S.G.A., cardiologist Edward Palank, the Golf Science International, and the Northern Ohio Golf Association.

Mr Fay thinks that by walking the course, you are able to experience the most enjoyable part of the game.

Walking, as a form of exercise, is something that the American public is getting away from. It is a very simple task that can help keep us limber and active for many years. That is, if we take advantage of the effort.

Researchers conducting a study in Sweden have discovered that walking through the course during a game of golf is as 40 to 70% as intense a workout as an aerobics class. That is if one were to play all eighteen holes.

In another study, Edward Palank found that golfers who walked enjoyed better health due to a decreased level of bad cholesterol. At the same time, their good cholesterol remained steady. On the other hand, golfers that decided to ride the course in a cart did not show the positive results in their health condition.

Additionally, information released by Golf Science International indicates that 4 hours of golf created the equivalent activity to that of completing a forty five minute fitness class.

The Northern Ohio Golf Association, noted that the distance a golfer walks during the course of an 18 hold game, it is approximately that of three to four miles. That is considering the activities of wandering around hills, across greens and to the tees.

If I have not convinced you yet, you should try it for yourself. Play a full 18 holes and walk the entire distance rather than riding. At the end, consider how much of a difference you feel.

In these days of laziness, we should be looking for ways to easily improve our mental and physical health. One easy to accomplish this is to play golf without riding in the cart. Get out and walk a full 18 holes of golf and you will know that you have gotten a good bit of exercise.
