Finding an Affordable Golf Equipment Supply Store

admin December 27th, 2008

Like almost any sport, if you have the best equipment then you have a good chance of being better at the sport than if you had poor equipment. This can easily be said for golf. If you have the best golf equipment, the best golf clubs, then you will most likely be able to play better. But for many people, money plays a major part in the type of golf equipment they can afford. So how can you find an affordable golf equipment supply store and buy your clubs for less money that high street stores?

Well, the advancement of technology has given us the perfect place to find all the golf equipment you need, without having to pay a fortune. Yes, we are talking about internet. Almost all major golf stores and golf suppliers have their own websites. The prices at these websites are always dramatically lower than you will find in your local golf store. This is because there is no middle man putting up the prices to keep for themselves. That’s why you can save a lot of money by going direct to the supplier.

The other major place to find affordable golf equipment is to use the popular auction websites, such as eBay. This is a great place to find not only second hand golf equipment but also brand new equipment too. In fact, many of the major retailers and suppliers will have their own eBay store. I bet you didn’t even know that did you? Just go and have a quick browse online and you will clearly see that there are huge savings to be made.

The main thing when looking for affordable golf equipment is to always do your research first. See how much an item is selling for in the local store, then look online and see how much you can save. It is almost guaranteed that you will be buying almost all your golf equipment online from now on!

4 ‘Must Play’ Golf Courses in the Great Smoky Mountains

admin December 27th, 2008

Golf originated in the cool, green Scottish highlands so where better to play it than in the cool, green Tennessee highlands? If you are planning a vacation around Pigeon Forge, cabin rentals abound and many of them offer great golf packages. In addition to comfortable accommodations, you can enjoy the convenience of reserved tee times at the many local golf courses.

Here are just a few of the great golf courses conveniently located near Pigeon Forge cabin rentals. The mild weather means courses are open year round. But be warned – the breathtaking mountain scenery makes it hard to concentrate on your game!

Gatlinburg Golf Course: This course is 6,282 yards long and a par 71. It was designed by William B. Langford and opened in 1955. It had major renovations in 1993 and 2007 which revitalized this exciting course.

This course is best known for the 12th hole, known as “Sky-Hi”. It has a 200-foot drop from tee to green and is one of the most dramatic holes in the country. Golfers with fears of heights have been known to skip this hole.

River Islands Golf Course: One of the newer courses in the area, this par 72 was designed by Arthur Hills and opened in 1991. River Islands has received a 4-star rating from Golf Digest and is considered by many to be the “must play” course for people staying at Pigeon Forge cabin rentals.

The holes are imaginatively designed and are unlike any other course you’ve played. The greens on this course are often deceptive and subtle breaks can send putts in odd directions.

Bent Creek Golf Course: One of the most striking features of this course, designed by Gary Player in 1972, is the mountain stream that winds its way through the grounds. Golfers often underestimate this par 72 course, lulled by the gentle curves of the mountain terrain. The course is challenging and fun and will test even the best player’s abilities.

The most challenging part of this course has got to be hole 11. With a 90 degree dogleg and creek surrounding the landing area, golfers require great skill (or luck) to do well on this hole.

Laurel Valley Course: Another of the newer courses, Laurel Valley opened in 1989. Although rated a par 70, most players agree it is a challenging 70 strokes. Golfers will be distracted not only by the natural beauty, but the abundant wildlife such as deer, wild turkeys, and black bears that are often seen nearby.

This is a tricky course the first time through because on several of the holes, you can’t see the green from the tee. New players have to guess on how to place their shots until they know the course better.

These are just a few of the golfing opportunities in the area. There are many other courses in the area all within easy reach of any Pigeon Forge cabin rentals.

Golf Club Swing Weights

admin December 27th, 2008

A golf club’s swing weight helps the player to be able to feel the club head hit the ball. This helps each of the clubs to have the same feel for continuity purposes.

Low lofted iron head’s, such as a 3-iron, have a much lower weight than a higher iron head, but the irons feel the same weight, due to the increased length of the lower irons club. The sand wedge is the only exception to this rule, as it needs the higher weighted club head to move through sand and pop the ball into the air.

Graphite and steel shaft golf wood swing weights vary because of the different compositions of the shafts themselves. While playing golf with steel shaft clubs, you will feel more of the club head than you will with the graphite shafts.

One driver golf tip to keep in mind is that when deciding to change your golf club’s shaft, you need to keep in mind that the weight will change on the club itself, and therefore the feel of the club will change also. You may need to change the weight of the club head itself for the club to retain its feel.

Higher swing weights help players who have a faster swing tempo to control their downswing a little better, while lighter swing weight’s help those players whose tempo is a little slower.

If you are having trouble with feeling the club head hit the ball, then you may want to try some golf clubs with a higher swing weight. Who knows, you may play golf better, too!

Golf Swing Tempo – How to Easily Achieve It

admin December 25th, 2008

Golf swing tempo is something every golfer dreams of but most can’t even do it consistently. Swinging like Freddie Couples or Ernie Els is not as easy as it looks, but with the right approach, you can get closer to making every swing have better tempo, resulting in more accurate shots that fly longer than usual.

Every body is built different and golf swing tempo will be dictated by this. What I mean is lets say you’ve got one hyper golfer who does everything fast. He/she talks fast, walks fast, etc…This golfer will have a faster golf swing tempo no matter how hard they try to change it.

Now you’ve got a mellow golfer. Everything they do is SLOW. They talk slow, they walk slow, everything is SLOW. These golfers have a fantastic chance at good golf swing tempo, unfortunately for most of them it’s not happening.

Why?

Tempo in your golf swing is related to muscular tension. Muscular tension is related to either tight and weak muscles, or loose and strong muscles. The latter is what you want. If you have golf muscles you’ve done some stretching on, it’s SO EASY to make a smooth, effortless and good tempo swing.

On the other hand if you have tight and weak muscles you’ll struggle with tempo forever!

The solution then is simple stretches and exercises targeting your golf swing muscles.

Do you want to discover the secret to creating more power and consistency in your golf swing, and eliminate ALL swing faults?

Cheap Golf Equipment

admin December 24th, 2008

Very few people out there enjoy paying full retail price for everything they own.

This is especially true when it comes to something like a hobby. Because not all of us can be on the pro tour, we value the golf equipment we have purchased and we look for the best possible outlet to get it at the lowest price possible.

Cheap golf equipment does not suggest that you have settled for something less. It simply means you’ve taken the extra step to find the best deals on the web and are ready to put it to good use on the course.

The beauty of going into a golf shop is that you can usually test out any club they have to offer. Combine this with the internet and you have created a system in which you can only succeed. Do your research beforehand to see what the most trusted and result-producing clubs are out there, then cruise on down to your local golf retailer to test them out and see which one fits best for your swing. (Reminder: make sure you know which type of shaft you are buying when you purchase online)

Even if a brand puts out a prize-worthy set one year, they will most certainly not put out the same one the next year. Just like the wind behind you on a long par 5, this can definitely play to your advantage. Dealers will usually put their sets of irons or woods on sale before or as the new models are coming out. Why take a chance on new technology that might not even be to your liking?

Additionally, you can always find accessories on sale. Most shoes look the same but only a few brands are proven to produce gear that would be worn by tour members. These companies are guilty of the same pattern of putting out new models every year. You can look like a pro even if you aren’t bringing in prize money like one.

Buying cheap golf equipment can be more rewarding than a close approach.

You can always find high quality products to help improve your game. Physical shops will have semi-annual deals but the best outlets are on the internet. Do not be discouraged if you cannot afford the best out there because, in truth, you can if you know where to look. Chances are your answer is waiting for you online.

Golf Lessons – A FAQ For Beginners Learning Golf For the First Time

admin December 11th, 2008

Golf lessons for beginners don’t come cheap. You need to squeeze as much as you can out of your golf trainer in the short time you spend with him. Here are some common tips, questions and answers which can help you wring the maximum benefit from your golf lessons.

1. How do I find the best golf trainers or golf lessons for beginners?

The best way is to ask for a recommendation from a friend whose opinion you trust. If you can’t do this, try asking at your local golf club or golf shop. Worst comes to worst, you can look in the Yellow Pages or buy a DVD course from Amazon (Remember to read the customer reviews before you buy).

2. How much does a golf lesson cost?

Rates run around $40-$50 an hour. Some locations are more expensive, e.g. Chicago pros charge around $100 an hour. This varies from pro to pro. If price really matters to you, you may be better off buying a DVD course or online course.

3. Should I get my clubs custom fitted before going for my golf lessons?

Opinions here are divided. My answer: If you don’t even know how to play golf, the answer is “No”. Custom fitting only benefits you once you develop a repeatable and consistent swing. However, pick up the phone and ask your golf trainer – if he has a different opinion then you should go with his advice.

Regardless, you should get your clubs re-gripped, especially if you are using hand-me-downs or second-hand clubs. Having the correct sized grips helps you to hold the club firmly. More than one player has found his persistent slice or hook mysteriously cured once he fixed his grip.

4. Do I need to tip my golf trainer?

That depends – how much did you get out of your golf lessons? One thing to remember is that most pros only take home 50% to 70% of what you pay them. The rest goes to the golf course or school. In a sense, they are very much like taxi drivers and waiters.

5. Should I get golf swing instructions A) from a pro; or B) from a certified golf instructor?

Theoretically, the certified golf instructor is trained to teach golf swing lessons, while the pro is someone who showed he knows how to play well. However, see the answer to question #1 – in practice, who cares whether your golf trainer is certified or not as long as he can teach you well!

6. I’m left-handed. Should I look for a left-handed instructor?

Not necessarily. Note that many left-handed golfers actually play right-handed. Courses are normally set up for right-handed play, and left-handed clubs are often more expensive.

7. How many golf lessons do I need?

That really depends on how quickly you learn. More importantly, if you have the choice, try to space out your lessons – once per month should give you enough time to practice on your own.

After you complete your beginner’s lessons, you should strongly consider scheduling follow-up lessons with your golf trainer. There are two main reasons for this:
Many week-end golfers tend to pick up bad golf habits over time. Their golf swing techniques slowly become develop mistakes and they play worse and worse. Follow-up lessons will help you to arrest the slide in your game. For those of you who actually manage to get a lot of practice in, you’ll find your skill hitting a plateau. Follow-up lessons will allow your golf instructor to teach you additional skills, for example how to hit a fade or draw, and how to control the spin of your ball. All of these will give you better accuracy in your swing.

The preceding frequently asked questions on golf lessons should help most beginners get more bang for the buck.

My Life’s Work – Learning To Play Golf

admin December 10th, 2008

Learning to play golf is a tremendous challenge for every golfer. Learning to play golf is challenging, it should, however, be approached as a game that is fun and enjoyable. In fairness, one can learn to ride a bike in an afternoon, whereas learning to play golf is a lifetime’s work. Aside from long jaunts to the country, learning to play golf is one of the best ways to combine both.

The first step in learning to play golf is obviously taking some golf lessons. I think learning to play golf is just like learning a language or learning to play the piano, painful at the beginning but rewards will come later.

Golf is 20 percent mechanics and technique. Golf is not just exercise; it is an adventure, a romance a Shakespeare play in which disaster and comedy are intertwined and you have to live with the consequences.

Virtually all professional golfers started playing as children or young teens. All professional golfers have talent, nurtured along the way by their family, often, in fact, by a a golf-professional parent (which includes any golf-related job, including greens keeper). I would bet that every golfer who has ever won on the PGA tour hit 365,000 balls by the time he was 20. Golfers are tested with the golf shot they face, a a ruling which may not be in their favor or the fellow-competitor who may be distracting.

Playing golf is a dynamic process, one that will prove to be very rewarding. Women are increasingly finding that learning to play golf is critical to their business careers. Learning to play golf is simple, relaxing and enjoyable, although learning to play golf well requires persistence. Playing golf is a life long experience and the journey is teaching you to gain mastery with ones emotions, physical movement patterns and thought processes.
